Things people ask before they join.
The questions we get most often, answered honestly. If yours isn't here, bring it to your meet and greet. The whole point of that conversation is to figure out whether we're the right fit for you.
We've tried to keep the answers short. Most link out to the page where the full story lives.
Do I still need health insurance?
Yes. Direct Primary Care isn't health insurance. It's a membership for the everyday primary care you actually use. You still need insurance for hospital stays, surgeries, specialist visits, and emergencies.
Most of our members pair Simplicity with a traditional plan, a high-deductible plan with an HSA, or a health-share arrangement. Our insurance page walks through the full picture.
What happens if I want to cancel?
Cancel anytime. No contracts, no penalty, no notice period required.
One thing to know: if you decide to re-enroll later, there's a $300 re-enrollment fee. Our membership is built around continuity of care, not occasional use, so this exists to discourage joining, leaving, and rejoining when symptoms come up. We rarely enforce it, but it's there. If you're looking for occasional acute care without an ongoing relationship, an urgent care is a better fit than a DPC membership.
Why pay a membership fee if I already have insurance?
Because your insurance pays for hospitals, surgeries, and specialists. It doesn't pay for your doctor to actually have time for you.
The membership covers the everyday care you use most: longer visits, direct access, in-house labs and pharmacy, and a physician who knows your story. Members who use their physician regularly often save more on labs, medications, and avoided ER visits than the membership costs them. Our cost calculator shows your specific math.
Can I switch tiers later if my needs change?
Yes. You can move up or down between tiers at any time. Just let our team know and we'll adjust your billing on the next cycle. No penalty, no waiting period, no paperwork.
Many members start in one tier and shift as life changes. A young, healthy member might start with Under 40 and move up to Gold once they have a chronic condition to manage. A Platinum member might step down to Gold once they're stable. The membership is supposed to fit your life, not the other way around.
Do you draw labs and order imaging in-house?
Labs are drawn in our office during your visit and processed through LabCorp at deeply negotiated cash prices, often 90 to 95% lower than what hospitals charge. Imaging (MRIs, CTs, ultrasounds, x-rays) goes through accredited partner facilities we've negotiated cash rates with.
Our lab and imaging page has the full price comparison.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds for the membership?
HSAs, yes. Recent federal legislation made HSA funds eligible for Direct Primary Care memberships, and all of our tiers can be paid with HSA dollars.
FSAs depend on your plan administrator. Some allow DPC memberships, others don't. Bring your specific plan details to your meet and greet and we'll walk you through how it works for your situation.
Do you see kids?
Yes. Dr. Wenzell and Dr. Marton see pediatric patients of all ages, from newborns through teenagers.
Family enrollment includes children under 18 at $49 per month per child. Our membership page has the full family pricing.
What if I'm not a member but want a one-time visit?
We see non-members for one-off consultations at $300. If you decide to enroll as a Simplicity Health member within a year of that visit, the $300 is credited toward your membership cost.
Meet-and-greets are a different thing entirely. Those are always free and don't involve treatment. The point is to figure out whether we're a good fit.
Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications, TRT, or HRT?
Yes to all three, with one important framing: we treat these as legitimate medical conditions, not as boutique offerings.
GLP-1 medications for weight management and Type 2 diabetes (Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, and similar) are prescribed through standard pharmacy channels when clinically appropriate. Testosterone replacement therapy for men and hormone replacement therapy for women are evaluated like any other condition and treated when the evidence supports it.
What we don't do is sell hormone pellets, peptides, compounded GLP-1s, or supplement subscriptions to every patient who asks. The treatment recommendation depends on the workup, not on what's in stock.
Do you practice functional, integrative, or holistic medicine?
No. We practice evidence-based primary care. We don't offer functional medicine testing, IV vitamin infusions, hormone pellets, peptides, or supplement-based protocols. If those are what you're looking for, we're not the right practice.
What we do offer is rigorous, attentive primary care, including thorough evaluation and treatment of metabolic, hormonal, and chronic conditions when the science supports it. Our what we treat page details our actual scope.
Bring them to a free meet and greet.
The meet and greet is a 20-minute conversation with one of our doctors, free of charge, with no commitment. The questions you have right now are exactly what we want to talk about.
