“Doctors are so quick to prescribe medication these days. Rarely do they ever try to stop those medications. Often times, those medications aren’t needed or only needed temporarily. The patient is rarely told what they can do to try to fix their problem. Patients will work hard to do what they need to do to fix their medical problems; they just need to know how to do it. They don’t want to have to take medications. One of the most gratifying things to say to a patient is:

‘Congratulations, because of your efforts, we don’t need this medication anymore.’”

— Dr. Opperman

Meet the Team

  • Dr. Josh Wenzell

    FAMILY MEDICINE

“Dr. Josh Wenzell is an excellent doctor, someone who truly listens to his patients, who explains what he’s doing and why he’s doing it, and then generously shares relevant research with his patients. He is what most patients hope to see in their doctor. Pretty old-fashioned rock-solid virtues. I’ve been around hundreds of doctors for several decades, having been a hospital psychologist. This doctor is special. I’m glad Dr. Wenzell is my doctor!” -D. Bromberg

  • Dr. Charles Opperman

    INTERNAL MEDICINE

“Best health care experience of my life! Dr. O bends over backward to give patients the personalized treatment and medical advice they need. He goes above and beyond to care for patients and give them options for treatment depending on what is important to them...” -M. Hamilton

  • Michelle Haviln

    LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

“Michelle is equally supportive, super caring, and a great communicator. When a need comes up unexpectedly, she is always ready to respond rapidly.” -M. Hamilton

“Michelle is the absolute sweetest and always remembers the little details.” -N. Kundu

Josh Wenzell, MD

He provides preventative screening and interventions (e.g. well child checks, cancer screening, heart disease prevention) along with chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, depression). Dr. Wenzell enjoys applying Evidence Based Medicine, empowering patients to incorporate Shared Decision Making*, and decreasing or deprescribing unnecessary medications and medical interventions. He enjoys the Direct Primary Care model which allows him ample time to understand his patients and their values and to incorporate them into an overall wellness plan.

Dr. Wenzell is from Enon, OH and completed his Bachelor of Science from Furman University, Medical Doctorate from Wright State University - Boonshoft School of Medicine, and residency at Bethesda Family Practice in Cincinnati, OH where he served as chief resident. He enjoys spending time with his family, board games, reading (mainly Sci-Fi and medical history), playing music (piano and French horn), and traveling around the world.

Dr. Wenzell is also fluent in Spanish.

*Shared Decision Making means incorporating the best available scientific evidence with each individual patient’s values and priorities. If a medication or other intervention has not been shown to improve a patient’s quantity or quality of life, then it should not be used outside of an experimental setting, which is a hallmark of Evidence Based Medicine.

Charles Opperman, MD, FACP

Dr. Opperman is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician. He has experience in both primary care and working with hospitalized patients. As an internal medicine physician, he does not see pediatric patients nor does he typically see OBGYN patients. While most family doctors are learning these skills, internal medicine physicians are honing their expertise in the fields of cardiology, diabetes, gastroenterology or many other adult medicine fields.

Dr. Opperman is especially focused on managing diabetes, cardiology concerns, and obesity. While these fields are of special interest to him, he also has experience treating all other aspects of adult medicine. Dr. Opperman values spending time with his patients to actually get to know them as people, not just their medical conditions.

Dr. Opperman has served as clinical teaching faculty for Kettering Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency program along with teaching assignments with Wright State University and Ohio University Schools of Medicine.

Dr. Opperman is a graduate of the University of Dayton and completed his residency training at Kettering Medical Center.
